The University of Maryland MATRIX Lab Autonomy Summit series focuses on the current state of autonomy. The series examines today’s autonomy in various use cases, especially in the United States Government and within the Department of Defense, in addition to academia and industry, critically looking at “edge autonomy” as it is being used and developed in the field today around the world. A much-needed perspective will be developing the “justified confidence” in autonomy as it is created, how we know we can trust it. The Summit’s discussions will include how these developments affect our own work and the creation of the future workforce.

The series aims to:

  • Bring together government, industry and academia to explore the evolution of the development and integration of autonomy across a range of implementations.
  • Lay the foundation for an ongoing series of engagements that articulate priority research areas to accelerate technological advancement and end-user adoption.
  • Identify gaps, and develop corresponding solutions, in the resource ecosystem (e.g., building-block technologies, workforce, education) to strengthen technological progression.
