In the MATRIX Lab short course "Introduction to PCB Design Essentials: Sensing Systems," participants will learn and practice introductory skills for the design, fabrication, and assembly of printed circuit boards (PCB) from concept to prototype.

The course starts with an overview of electronics and circuit schematic/layout in design software, such as KiCAD and Fusion 360. Then, each step of the PCB fabrication process will be presented and demonstrated in-house at the MATRIX Lab. Instructors will also review essential skills for integrating electronics with off-the-shelf sensor modules, including soldering, circuit/PCB debugging, packaging, and device validation. Lastly, analysis of prototype performance and sensor signal capture will be discussed.

The six day course will be held over two weeks, from June 16-18 and June 23-25, 2025, for 3 hours a day (time TBD). All sessions will be held in-person at the USMSM SMART Building, 44219 Airport Rd, California, MD 20619. This course will be limited to 12 participants so register ASAP! Cost is $850 per participant; students get a 50% discount.
