The College of Southern Maryland (CSM), in partnership with Ensemble Consultancy and Brightidea, will host a hybrid (virtual and in-person) climate innovation hackathon March 30-31, 2023.

In collaboration with Charles County Government, teams will be able to solve one of two challenges that address climate change issues:

1. Data Visualization Challenge
2. Marketing Strategy Challenge

According to the VelocityX Climate Innovation Hackathon website, reasons to participate include:

  • Making a real community impact addressing local climate-related challenges
  • Earning prize money from a $12,000 pool
  • Getting support and technical resources to build your entrepreneurial ideas
  • Getting access to mentorship opportunities
  • Contributing to an innovative program to build your resume and professional network

"I would definitely say for me what was the most rewarding was not only winning it, getting the prize money, but it was also the connections I made there," said Hassan Turay, one of the winners of the 2022 Hackathon. "I also learned a lot even though it was a very condensed and concentrated time, just under 48 hours. You learn a lot from the people you're working with."

The hackathon will be conducted in-person at the Velocity Center (4465 Indian Head Hwy, Indian Head, MD 20640). There will also be an option to virtually participate remotely using the hackathon site.
