Non-Metallic Machine Shop

Lab equipment includes:

  • Next Wave computer numerical control (CNC) Shark router for cutting, drilling, boring, and milling a variety of materials, but mostly wood
  • Bantam Tools Desktop CNC Milling Machine for smaller scale milling, as opposed to the larger CNC Milling Machine in the Metallic Machine Shop
    • Mostly educational purposes (less precise, more user-interactive, good for people using CNC milling machines for the first time)
  • Formech 450DT vacuum thermoforming machine for creating objects by vacuuming heated sheets of plastic over top of a mold
  • Formlabs Form 3 resin 3D printer for high precision printing and a smooth, high-resolution finish on projects
    • Educational and research purposes (the machine is capable of printing multiple types of resin, including ones that are more flexible and ones that are stronger)
  • Resin cleaning stations for washing off any remaining liquid resin (liquid resin can be messy, even toxic)
  • DEWALT Chop Saw for making straight, accurate, downward cuts with a circular blade and cutting very thick wood or metal with a powerful motor
    • Mostly educational purposes (12” blade)
  • SawStop 10” Contractor Table Saw for cutting larger pieces of wood into smaller, manageable sizes through ripping, crosscutting, bevel cutting, and kerfing
    • Also for cutting rabbets, grooves, and joints
    • Mostly educational purposes (10” blade, 3 ft. table)
  • brother HC1850 Computerized Sewing Machine for sewing fabric and materials together with thread
