BACKGROUND

Matt Landreman’s research centers on analytical and computational methods for design optimization of magnetically confined plasmas. This work is largely motivated by fusion energy, but extends also to areas of applied mathematics, plasma physics, and other applications of magnets. Matt did his undergraduate degree at Swarthmore College and holds a masters from Oxford University. He received his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2011. He came to UMD and IREAP in 2013, where he has been a research scientist until joining the teaching faculty this year.
