Shannon is a senior at the University of Maryland Clark School at USMSM, majoring in mechanical engineering. During her internship, she is working with Drs. Justin Stine and Wei-Kuo Yen on an autonomous underwater vehicle. The "Buoyancy Operated roBot-tle", or "Bob," can be used in oceanography research to sense pressure. Her goals for the internship include getting hands-on experience with research in a professional environment; learning cross-disciplinary skills like 3D printing, soldering, and building printed circuit boards; and diving deeper into the robotics field. She chose the internship because she was intrigued by the MATRIX Lab’s equipment and resources and wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to use it. She is skilled in computer-aided design, project management, and MATLAB.

Shannon graduated from North Point High School in Charles County, where she was involved in engineering and robotics. She graduated from the College of Southern Maryland with an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering before enrolling at the University of Maryland.
